What is Yoga?
In our western culture, we often think of yoga as the asana (physical posture) practice. Over time and practice, yoga has become so much more to me. Yoga translates to mean “yoke” or “union”. It is a coming together of mind, body, spirit, and community. There are 8 limbs of yoga, only one of which includes the physical yoga postures we picture when we think of yoga. During my last teacher training, we were asked the question, “What does yoga mean to you?” at the beginning and end of the few months we spent together. At the beginning of the training, my answer was “yoga is breath”. Finding my breath and realizing my breathing patterns can assist me in making conscious decisions about how I choose to interact with the world was a huge wake up call and has supported me in moving through my everyday life with mindfulness. I will forever be grateful for all of the lessons in breath work yoga has taught me. My answer at the end of training was, “yoga means space.” With my life being in such a beautifully full season with young children and career momentum, I come to my mat and get to reset and take space for myself. This space is necessary for me to be the best mother and wife I can be. Not only am I creating space in my life, I am creating space in my body, keeping my body strong and balanced so I can get down on the floor and play with my little ones with energy and vitality. I have so much gratitude for the time I get to be in my yoga, whether that is in a yoga class, on my meditation cushion, or just watching the sunset with the people I love. Tuesdays: Prenatal Yoga 6:30-7:30 p.m. (You and the Mat, Laguna Niguel)
Sundays: Yoga for Fitness 5:00-6:15 p.m. (You and the Mat, Laguna Niguel)
Private sessions: Private sessions are offered at Allen Chiropractic Monday and Wednesday mornings 6:00-10:00 a.m.
